Intelligentsia Cup 2019 Saturday July 20 in GE

Looks like the race is July 20 for 2019.

Mark your calendars, this is a great event to sponsor, volunteer for or just attend.

That is wrong. They have not updated their site other than sticking the dates at the top. It is Saturday, July 20.

Still need race day volunteers! It is an easy job fun job, you can bring a chair... You just hold a flag when the riders are passing so nobody tries to cross the street in front of them.

I'll have to be with you guys in spirit. Hosting a 75th bday party all day at my palatial estate.

This bike race thing is becoming, for me, like the Regatta and Jazz Fest. Every year I tell myself that this is the year I am going to go. And every year I have some kind of conflict.

Barring strong thunderstorms, I'll be out there in the 117 degree heat shooting the race as I always have. I'll just ask that if I begin to look like I have severe heat stroke, please direct me to the proper medical professionals.

How did it get so hot so soon?
August is here before its June.
    A hundred degrees by afternoon.
Out too long I'll become a prune.
How did it get so hot so soon?

I’ll be there as a Course Marshall from 1-6 pm, then rehydration at the beer area.

Is there a severe weather plan for this thing?

After watching last year, I have trouble even imagining them racing on wet pavement. Yikes.

I believe these things are always Rain or Shine. I'm not sure about violent lightning though. After training and racing around the Lake Ellyn course about 10,000 laps in my much earlier years, I can tell you that with the number of sharp turns, when the pavement is wet, it can become a nightmare trying to keep the rubber side down at race speeds.

We have a 7 page emergency action plan, but they ride in the rain.

The TOGE website listed on the recent GE Twitter post has the wrong schedule time for the first race. It is not 10am, as listed, but 9:40am.

Great event! I always enjoy volunteering as a course marshall and the last races are always fun to watch. Thanks to those who put this all together again this year, and hoping it will be going on for many years to come!
