    Valet Parking

So Glen Ellyn has announced a valet parking pilot program. The program offers free valet parking for diners at five different restaurants in the 400 block of Main Street on Friday and Saturday evenings. Drivers who shop and eat downtown can use the valet parking, but will be subject to a fee if they aren't dining at participating eateries. The following restaurants have collaborated with Glen Ellyn to offer the valet parking pilot program:

    Fire and Wine
    Maize and Mash
    Nobel House
    Santa Fe Mexican Restaurant
    Shannon's Irish Pub

To accommodate this, it looks like they are going to close off part of the Main Street parking lot to park the valeted cars. If this is true, this is ridiculously stupid. I hope not a dime of our tax dollars is being spent on this "pilot" to benefit these private businesses.

Just read in GE Press Release, "The program is jointly funded by the Village and the five participating restaurants." That is total bull****, why are we funding private businesses?

We will be losing use of the Main Street lot for several months during the Giesche demolition and OPUS/APEX development. So maybe they want to get a program up and running and get the kinks out before the golden shovels hit the floral clock.

I'm sure APEX will be reimbursing the Village's costs

I could see valet parking if the spots were too far away from those places, but good God, they are 30 feet away?! the valets should be parking the cars on Duane or Hillside.

Does anyone know if the Civic Center Parking Garage construction timeline will coincide with that of OPUS/APEX? I would assume there will be overlap.

If so, DTM, you would have no Main St. parking lot and no Civic Center Parking lot at the same time.

I do wonder where the job site trailers and laydown areas are going to be located for these two projects (not to mention contractor parking......).

All part of the Village's plan to depress the CBD and increase the TIF zone.

Apex is still in the planning and approval stage, not sure anyone can estimate. And then there is this in the last day..."The public hearing scheduled for Dec 6 for the proposed development by GSP Development for the Planned Unit Development of the former Giesche site and the Village owned parking lot at 400 & 418-424 N. Main St. has been cancelled. The hearing will be rescheduled for January 2019."

On the Civic Center, "...beginning in December 2018, the Civic Center will undergo major renovations. Due to limited space and the need to stage construction equipment in the Civic Center lot during construction, parking will be prohibited during certain hours. Please note that effective Monday, December 3, 2018, parking in the Civic Center lot will be restricted..."

    You buried the lead

Illinois law requires certain notice be provided before the Village may conduct a public hearing. While the Village highly publicized tonight’s meeting, including many forms of notice that exceeded Illinois’ legal requirements, an error in the notice that was published in the newspaper will prevent tonight’s hearing from proceeding. The public hearing will be rescheduled for a date in January. The Village will provide advance notice of the public hearing by posting a sign on the property, publishing notice in the local newspaper, mailing notice to property owners within 350’ of the property, and utilizing various other media outlets.

Update, this is not true, the signs in the Main Street lot are to be used on Main street to "reserve" the parking spots needed to create the valet zone...valeted cars will be parked at a more distant location. Taxpayers are still putting dollars into select private businesses pockets though.
