Last year, Glenbard West outexecuted and outmanned Edwardsville 38-21 in the Class 8A quarterfinal at Edwardsville...today, Naperville North traveled to play Ed and was down 42-0...NN came back to win 53-49. Was hoping that would be the Hitters today, but at least some team had a stellar comeback!

Never heard of a team giving up 62 points at home, allowing the opponent to score every single possession they tried being ranked in top ten. They did play a terrific team with (5 new OL and new QB), but they weren't playing a college team, 62 points!

That being said, I expect they them to rebound vs Proviso West, but they need to win a bunch impressively to earn being a top 10 team. Go Hitters!

Credit where due, Maine South was the best team in the state of Illinois last year...and they looked all that and more Saturday, dare I say best this year. You had a flawless game by a championship team versus a flawed game by a team with some flaws. Hetlet is not one to reveal his cards, but if one only looks to that August 8th Daily Herald interview, the signs were there... "It's a lot of no-name kids that people haven't really heard about," said Glenbard West coach Chad Hetlet. "We need our defense to come together, but this has the potential to be a really good group."

Pre-season rankings are a guess, Maine South deserved the #2 rank, they deserved a #1 rank...not sure what West deserved, if even in the top 20. Next couple games will determine if adjustments can be made on D, and if the young men can grow into their new assignments (D ends, containment means no one gets around you and the sideline!) and where they should stand in the rankings...

    Go Hitters!

Well, CSN (Edgy Tim) had West at #4 and now at #24...which feels about right given what "we" know...

West's opponent last week, Maine South, lost Friday...

    And at Duchon Saturday...

Glenbard West back to winning with defense (link) — Daily Herald

"Glenbard West's football team eased the sting of a Week 1 loss with Saturday's 49-0 victory over Proviso East at Glen Ellyn's Duchon Field. Granted, the Pirates (0-2) didn't offer the same competitive level as defending Class 8A champion Maine South. But after last week's 62-34 loss to the Hawks, the Hilltoppers (1-1) needed a confidence boost. They got it on Saturday, especially on defense.

A 14-0 lead after a quarter became 42-0 by halftime. The running clock rule went into effect for the second half as Glenbard West worked in the rest of its roster.

The defensive effort was impressive considering the number of changes made to the lineup from last week. Offensive standouts Ryan Diver and Alec Pierce saw time on defense, and Greyson Metz became the third sophomore member of the unit."

Glenbard West pulls away from Addison Trail in fourth quarter (Daily Herald)

"The momentum swung Glenbard West's way to start the second half Friday night at Addison Trail. Tyquan *** made sure of it. The Hilltoppers junior took the second-half kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to give Glenbard West the lead for good. The Hilltoppers then pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 35-10 West Suburban Conference crossover football win."

Was an absolute must to click that link in order to see what Tyquan's last name was.
