I want to be fair is disbursing my disgust.

James Comey is a real squid. A self-righteous, self-absorbed, squid.

The guy makes my skin crawl. I would like him to go away from the national attention ASAP.

More disappointedly, his "revelations" aren't even that good.

Your characterizations of Comey may be fair, and he seems to be a man without a country, with no friends on the right or the left. But while his judgment has come under fire (vis-a-vis Clinton investigation in particular) I don't think anyone's laid a glove on him as to lying or untruthfulness. I'm not sure what "revelations" he promised. Comey has claimed that these are the facts of his conversions with Trump and someone else will decide if they amount to obstruction. His near-contemporaneous notes and memos seem to bolster Comey's accounts of these events. Of course in addition to the Comey-Trump conversations are the fact of the firing of Comey, the Lester Holt interview, and Trump's comments while ushering his bosses Lavrov and Kyslyak into their Oval Office.

My prediction is that as the Trump criminal empire is unraveled by Mueller, et al., the importance of Comey and the Trump-Comey meetings will diminish and you will get your wish that Comey fades into the sunset.

    ORDER NO. 3915-2017

APPOINTMENT OF SPECIAL COUNSEL TO INVESTIGATE RUSSIAN INTERFERENCE WITH THE 2016 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION AND RELATED MATTERS

By virtue of the authority vested in me as Acting Attorney General, including 28 U.S.C. §§ 509, 510, and 515, in order to discharge my responsibility to provide supervision and management of the Department of Justice, and to ensure a full and thorough investigation of the Russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, I hereby order as follows:

    (a) Robert S. Mueller III is appointed to serve as Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice.

    (b) The Special Counsel is authorized to conduct the investigation confirmed by then-FBI Director James B. Comey in testimony before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on March 20, 2017, including:

    (i) any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump; and
(ii) any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation; and
(iii) any other matters within the scope of 28 C.F.R. § 600.4(a).
    (c) If the Special Counsel believes it is necessary and appropriate, the Special Counsel is authorized to prosecute federal crimes arising from the investigation of these matters.

    (d) Sections 600.4 through 600.10 of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations are applicable to the Special Counsel.

    To DTM:

"Collusion" defined thanks to Stephen: "any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump."

Manafort was the Chair of the Campaign. Among many other things it will be proven that he was offering private briefings to a Kremlin-connected oligarch during the campaign.

Manafort, Don Jr. and Jared met with Russian operatives on campaign matters during campaign at Trump Tower.

Rough picture that will come into focus on connections between Wikileaks, gosifer II, Roger Stone, Russian operatives, Trump campaign, etc.

New stories emerging and the Trumpers need to prepare for evidence that Michael Cohen not only met with Russians in Prague but was more generally serving as back-channel to the Russians during the campaign

Not all of this is fully proven, but the idea that there is no evidence of "collusion" is preposterous. As Stephen's post points out, Donald Trump the individual does not need to be personally caught red-handed for his campaign to have been involved in "collusion."

Don't care to get in the weeds on this, on a Friday and because I'm just watching it play out with an open mind, but, two things.

It's not collusion, it's about criminal conspiracy.

And, since Mueller was appointed, he has issued more than 100 criminal counts against 19 people and three companies. Of the 19 people, five — including three Trump associates — have pleaded guilty. Thirteen are Russians accused of meddling in the 2016 presidential election. So, yeah.

Trump's collusion with and subservience to a foreign adversary is enough for sure.

But that's obviously only the tip of the iceberg vis-a-vis his unfitness for office and I'm personally completely comfortable with the investigations bleeding into his myriad other illegal, corrupt, immoral and shady dealings.

sounds like you have been drinking the CNN Koolaid.

Collusion itself is not a crime. You collude to commit a crime. Still waiting to hear what that crime is from Mr. Mueller. So far we have only seen usual FBI tactics of trying to get people to mess up and lie to the FBI so they can hang that above them to get dirt on others as a part of a plea deal.

While as to criminal charges, there is no crime of "collusion" and "conspiracy" might be a basis for criminal charges, Mueller's mandate was not only for bringing criminal charges but also to figure out what happened (among other things) between Trump and Russia, whether or not technically criminal, as your quote indicates.

Agreed. So we will wait and see. Place your bets.

    Always need to ask . . . which Kool-Aid is sweeter, CNN's or Fox's?

FWIW, I personally feel that we are beyond collusion. I'd even let the whole thing go if Trump would just admit that his pals interfered and continue to interfere in our democratic process, that he doesn't want to piss his pals off for some reason by imposing sanctions for various misdeeds . . . and he doesn't even need to disclose why . . . I'd happily move along after he admits to all of that. And then actually makes some sort of substantive move to keep it from happening again. Because that is kind of his job.

The porn stuff and Playboy model stuff. Good on him. More envious than anything else.
