    Illinois Drives People Away

The Prairie State lost a record $4.75 billion in adjusted gross income to other states in the 2015 tax year, according to recently IRS data released. That’s up from $3.4 billion in the prior year. Many of the migrants were retirees who often flock to balmier climes. But millennials accounted for more than a third of the net outflow in tax returns.

Every Illinoisan owes $11,000 for pensions with no fix in sight (link) — Crain's

"Three years ago today, the Illinois Supreme Court struck down the state's attempt to cut its employees' pension benefits to chip away at a retirement-system debt that's swelled to almost $11,000 for every man, woman and child."

The rest is too painful to post.

Chicago Fed Bank Economists Proposes 1% Real Estate Tax Increase to Fix Pensions

If you own a $150,000 home, you would pay another $1,500 in property taxes to go towards pensions. The trio of economists estimated that it would take about 30 years for the new tax to pay off the debt.
Or in GE this would be $3000 - $7000 per year...

The economists admit that their plan might hurt home values, but say that could be good for the Illinois economy by encouraging people who live in other states to move here for the lower housing prices.
This is the idiotic thinking that got the state here in the first place....
