    Fatal airbag ruptures

Reading my print version of the Times this am I ran across an excellent article on fatal airbag ruptures…surprised to see the models that may still be of risk…know many are not driving 13-15 year old vehicles, but maybe your college age kids are, etc.

    Main article...

A Cheaper Airbag, and Takata’s Road to a Deadly Crisis (link) New York Times

    Informative sidebar…

    Which automakers are affected? (link)

The Takata airbag recall involves the following manufacturers:

    BMW
    Chrysler
    General Motors
    Ferrari
    Ford
    Honda
    Mazda
    Mercedes-Benz
    Mitsubishi
    Nissan
    Subaru
    Toyota
    Volkswagen
    Jaguar/Land Rover

Which models are most at risk?
Regulators are urging drivers of the older recalled Honda or Acura models listed below to stop driving their vehicles and have them fixed immediately because they are most at risk of rupturing during airbag deployment.

    They are:

    2001-2 Honda Civic
    2001-2 Honda Accord
    2002-3 Acura TL
    2002 Honda CR-V
    2002 Honda Odyssey
    2003 Acura CL
    2003 Honda Pilot

You can do a recall search by VIN on the SaferCar.gov website (run by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)

My recall notice came today for my Toyota. But it isn't a Takata airbag.

I see what you did there. I guess Clam has to take his 2006 Subaru Baja in for a new airbag. I'm sure Mercedes will pick up GE Fan's C63 AMG...
