    Sherpa is a must see

I saw a documentary film at a festival a couple months ago that is outstanding and will be on tomorrow night. I know there are some adventurers amongst the Forumers, and for myself, I've always followed this Everest climbing season online religiously. No climber has made the Summit the past two seasons. Last year was the earthquake that cancelled the season, two years ago it was tragedy. "Sherpa" tells that harrowing story of the 2014 tragedy on Mt. Everest through the eyes of the Sherpas, the men who risk their lives each climbing season. Watch or set your DVR, Discovery Channel, Saturday April 23 at 8pm CST. You will enjoy it.

You're welcome, we did the same thing. Although I forgot about the commercials…which really slows the drama. It will be fascinating to see what this climbing season (starting right now) brings for the climbers, and, the Sherpa.

    Preview of this season…

Everest Summited for First Time in Two Years (link) — Outside

Fitting that the first to summit the world's highest peak in two years are Sherpa guides...

"A team of nine Nepalese Sherpa guides became the first climbers in two years to summit Everest via the Khumbu Icefall. The south side of the mountain was effectively shuttered in the wake of 2014’s Icefall avalanche, in which 16 local high altitude workers were killed. And last year’s powerful earthquake, which killed at least 18 and injured 61 others at Base Camp, resulted in no summit attempts from either the south or north sides of the peak.

The Sherpa team topped out after fixing ropes up the 29,035-foot peak via the mountain’s South Col route, the most…"

Just returned from the True/False film festival, the largest documentary film festival in the US. Only one "great" movie on par with Sonita and Sherpa from last year, "I am Not your Negro."

A must see, in theatres now, "I am Not your Negro" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNUYdgIyaPM

"I Am Not Your Negro offers an incendiary snapshot of James Baldwin's crucial observations on American race relations -- and a sobering reminder of how far we've yet to go."

A couple I'd recommend and watch for on HBO/Amazon/Netflix...

Just listened to a story this morning on NPR about the above forementioned Casting JonBenet is now on Netflix, very interesting movie if you are looking for something different.

Also, one of the best documentary films I've ever seen, Sonita, is on Netflix. Powerful, powerful film about an amazing young women who fights her mother and family when they attempt to sell her off as a child bride.
