    Happy Π Day

To all those dividing the circumference of a circle, any circle, by its diameter...engineers and math nerds, I'm talking to you. Once in a century, the numbers in the year bring in two more digits of the mathematical constant to make 3.1415. That is today, Happy Pi Day! (link)

Just heard they've quadrupled their inventory for the day http://www.hoosiermamapie.com

Adler has an event to celebrate...

    http://www.adlerplanetarium.org/events/pi-day-2015

“Pi” is defined as the number 3.1415926.
“Pie” is defined as either a pastry filled with fruit or cream-based confectionary that delights the sweet tooth OR round baked dough with tomato sauce, cheese, and toppings - best served Chicago-style!

Join WBEZ 91.5 and the Adler Planetarium as we celebrate both Pi and Pie on Saturday, March 14, 2015. Just like Pi, the fun goes on, and on, and on! There will be two events held at the Adler Planetarium, 1300 S. Lake Shore Drive, on Chicago’s Museum Campus. The family-friendly daytime event is from 12 to 4 pm. The evening 21+ event is from 6 to 10 pm.

Daytime Pi Day activities, which are FREE to all visitors with paid museum admission, include a Pie Eating Contest, a Parachuting Pies challenge and Pie in the Sky solar observing (weather permitting). Don’t miss the Nerd Confessional Booth staffed by the ladies of the WBEZ Nerdette podcast, a lecture on Pi and Einstein by Adler Astronomer Shane Larson, Ph.D at 3 pm, and more.

From 6 to 10 pm, guests 21 and older can enjoy the best of The Ultimate Pi Day after museum hours with cash bars, music from Vocalo’s DJ Collective, a Nerdette panel discussion and Pi Day activities. Tickets are $25 and include sky shows and museum access.

Pi Day wouldn’t be complete without, you guessed it – pie! Celebrated Chicago pastry and pizza vendors including Bang Bang Pie Shop, Hoosier Mama Pies and Piece Pizza will be onsite – day and night – to offer guests samples of the best Chicago has to offer.

Figuring the circumference of a circle or the length of a tangent segment is basic geometry. I am routinely shocked at people in my industry that don't have a clue how to do it. At my last employer I had to teach my whole sales staff basic geometry.

Perplexed: "Johnny, give me a sentence using the word, 'geometry.'"
Johnny: "A little acorn grew and grew until it finally awoke one day and said, 'Gee, I'm a tree.'"

Went to Nortside for the first two periods of the Hawks game and had to leave for a Pi party. Bummer, never been to a Pi party before…no beer, they don't want you to drink and derive. Had a few nice conversations, didn't talk to the circles, because there is no point. Off to drink green beer.

Compared to last year, this PI day sucks.

Most likely because you celebrated yesterday too much. You know, yesterday - 3/13/16 or 3+13=16....

Trader Joe's in GE has Pumpkin Pie shakes (with the crust in there too) today in their demo.
