West supposed to have a good team this year, again.
Glenbard West's improved defense (http://www.mysuburbanlife.com/2018/08/08/football-seven-up-jayden-rodgers-leads-seven-starters-back-for-glenbard-wests-improved-defense/dw3q52f/) — Suburban Life

"A year ago, the Hilltoppers managed to overcome a young defense to post a 9-2 record, but lost to Oswego in a Class 8A second-round playoff game. With seven starters back on a defense that held four opponents to under double digits..."

#64 looks like an absolute STUD. Must be good genetics.

Guess I should update this thread, West lost to the defending State Champions, Maine South the first week and have gone on to post back-to-back shut outs and were up 31-0 over York last night before finishing up at 45-24 for their third victory, now 3-1 on the season.

Hitters fall to OFRF, 10-7. Even game, penalties killed West, inside 20 numerous times and no points, OPRF never within 20 on a drive, long TD run and long FG. Offensive play calling was done by Kayne West I believe.

Wondered why only about 100 of 2,400 student body shows up for big conference football game on a beautiful Sat....
Thought it was lame. Couldn’t believe the band skipped out after half time show. Left a huge chunk of the stadium seats empty.
Maybe GBW football fans and students are bored with winning so much. Hopefully voters aren’t next month haha. Couldn’t help myself.

They would show up if it were a night game, majority of students prefer the night games, conference versus non-conference matters none to majority of the students and at the conclusion of the game, the majority of the students can't tell you what the score was.

Last time Oak Park River Forest won a football in Glen Ellyn was 1998. Fitting, since the day's offensive playbook was a throw-back from that era.

I have a kid in the band. They have to leave after halftime - they turn their uniforms back in and (I believe) have a recap meeting. They could come back, but you wouldn't see them until over half way into the 4th quarter.

Agreed. Friday night’s in the fall are made for HS football. Never gonna happen though at GBW.
I think the it would be a super hot ticket for students and locals - then head out post game for beverages.

Going into week 9...

IHSA 8A playoff projections (guestimates), Hinsdale Central the #10 seed and hosting Waubonsie Valley in the first round. OPRF #17 and on the road at Plainfield South. Glenbard West #18 and on the road at Bartlett.

Possible second-round matchups if both the Huskies and Hitters advance. OPRF would probably face Lincoln-Way East and Glenbard West likely Brother Rice. Lincoln-Way East is #1 and Rice #2. OPRF and Glenbard West would host those games.

Slight, slight possibility that GW and HC could have a rematch in the quarterfinals - if both win their first two games.

Heads up to anyone with aspirations of attending the Hitters game tonight versus Bartlett...they have no visitor seating, and their stands only seat 1,500.

Update, Bartlett has minimal stands in one of the end zones, and another tip, park close to exit and walk to stadium. It is a nightmare to exit , only one exit and it is jammed after games. Go Hitters!

Beat down at Duchin today, stung.
Lincoln Way East is likely 8a favorite and champion. Felt a little like the end of a super special era today. Golden Eagle youth feeder football numbers were way down. Just got a bad feeling.

Hope I’m wrong. GBW football program is terrific, just wonder if they will keep getting the talent to compete for #1. It also hurts a ton when they are in the 8a (biggest schools) division.

Hard to write about this game and be clear, concise and not misconstrued.

LWE is called the "Beast" for a reason, defending champion with 4 D1 talents and depth, skill and great coaching. They were a 30-40 point favorite today.

West was a very good, but not great, team... good athletes, but no stellar stars.

Today, West played almost the worse game imaginable...turnovers, penalties...3 times they false starts to first and 20...two times they failed to catch a kickoff in the air after calling a fair catch...on 4th down with 17 seconds in the half they failed to run the clock out by fumbling to a TD, then on the ensuing kickoff, fumbled the kickoff and let up the next play for a TD with seconds left...14 points in less than 14 seconds. It was a sub, sub par showing. That said, they had an opponent that would have beat them with a good to great showing. Yes, they inherited players when the other LW school closed, yes they have more enrollment, but that is a good team, none the less.

The 8A field is difficult with many strong teams...LWE, arguably, thee strongest...25 wins in a row I think, 7-8 shutouts with 6-7 running clocks..very, very good team.

Congrats to the 2018 Hitters on another great season and 11th straight playoff appearance.

Just announced...

IHSA schools pass football districting proposal (link) (https://football.dailyherald.com/sports/20181218/ihsa-abolishes-football-conferences-starting-in-2021/) Daily Herald

In a landmark decision, Illinois High School Association member schools Tuesday approved Proposal 23, which will abolish football conferences statewide beginning with the 2021 season, in favor of a new districting format.

Proposal 23 directs the IHSA to implement a football scheduling system for regular-season varsity games that would involve the following:

•A 9-week regular season;

•Playoff classes will be determined in advance of the season;

•Schools from each class will be placed into eight geographic groups by the IHSA office to play a round-robin schedule

•The remaining games on the regular season schedule will be arranged by the individual schools at their discretion;

•The top 4 teams in each of the eight groups qualify for the playoffs, based on games played within each group.

It's in the article. Blah blah, difficult to schedule non-conference games. Blah blah, too much conference jumping lately.

Pretty good recap on both the overhaul of the football regular season and playoffs, and, the elimination of football and other sports and activities by the Hinsdale High School District 86 board
